Kalamazoo Went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, February 20, 2008 at Tendercare of Westwood. Ellen was born July 9, 1918 in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of Thomas and Dena Niewoonder Koning and was a lifelong Kalamazoo resident. Ellen was a lifelong member of Second Christian Reformed Church and along with her husband Tony was very involved for many years as volunteers for the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. She was very family oriented and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her life. Her husband Tony preceded her in death in 2000 and she was also preceded by 2 brothers, Joe and Bill Koning and by a sister Ida Napp. Surviving are 5 children and their spouses, Beth and David DeBlecourt, Tom and Linda VandenBerg, Dan and Marge VandenBerg, Kris and Dennis Scheffers and Jim and Judy VandenBerg, all of Kalamazoo; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister Grace Koning and a brother Henry Beatrice Koning, all of Kalamazoo; many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday at the Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd. with the Rev. Dr. Warren Lammers officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service with burial after the luncheon in Grand Prairie Cemetery. Friends may meet the family on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Memorial contributions in Ellen's memory may be made to the Second Christian Reformed Church Mission Fund, Kalamazoo Christian Schools Association or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. Ellen's family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Lawlor and the staff at Tendercare of Westwood for the loving care they gave to their mother.
