SMITH, Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Emaar
Parchment, MI Died Thursday morning April 16, 2009. Betty was born March 12, 1920 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a daughter of Jacob and Trena VeenHuis Emaar. She had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Upjohn Company for 10 years, before retiring. Elizabeth was also a member of the Parchment Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed crocheting, reading, walking, bicycling, traveling, and solving puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Smith on October 16, 1994; a son, Doug Smith on March 13, 1970; and 5 brothers, Dowlen, Don, Jack, and twins, Duane "Butch" and Juane "Joe" Emaar. She is survived by 2 sons, Stewart and Lois Smith of Kalamazoo and Bradley and Becky Smith of Comstock; 6 grandsons, Jim and Emily Smith, Andy and Shelly, Doug and Angie, Dan, Craig, and Jeff Smith; 4 great-grandchildren, Kevin, Trevor, Blake, and Caden Smith; a sister, Miss Dena Emaar of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11 o'clock Saturday at the Parchment Christian Reformed Church, 1615 East G Ave. Visitation will be 6-8pm Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Graveside services will be held 11 o'clock Monday in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
