The Lord called her to her eternal home on Saturday, August 11, 2007. Eleanor was born October 24, 1923 in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of Anthony and Grace Vermeulen VanderWeele and lived in Kalamazoo for her entire life. She was a life long member of Third Reformed Church where she was employed as church secretary for 22 years. She also taught Sunday School and Catechism and was a member of the Ladies Guild. She served as an election precinct worker for Kalamazoo Township for several years. Along with her husband Carl, they have volunteered at Camp Geneva since 1986 and also volunteered for Wycliff Bible Translators. On September 27, 1946, she was married to Carl Bussema, who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters and 1 son, Mary Anne Richard Wolthuis of Seneca, SC, Alan Carl Janeen Bussema of Richland and Karen Marie David Claus of Ada, MI; 8 grandchildren, Bradley and Daniel Wolthuis, Emily Bradshaw, Lisa Kuiper, Kevin Bussema, William, Adam and Dan Claus; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister Mary Jean Louis Drenth of Kalamazoo and a brother Robert Mary Jane VanderWeele of Portage; several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and by 3 sisters, Betty Koning, Marguerite Osterman and Carol Hamming. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday at the Third Reformed Church, 2345 N. 10th St. with the Rev. Dar VanderWal officiating. Interment in Grand Prairie Cemetery. Friends may meet the family today from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Memorial contributions in Eleanor?s memory may be made to Third Reformed Church or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan for the excellent and loving care provided to Eleanor during her illness.
