December 2, 1919 — December 27, 2014

SCHUUR, EDNA Edna Schuur, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Dec. 27, 2014. Edna was born December 2, 1919 in Perth Amboy, NJ. She graduated from Newark Memorial Hospital in 1940 as a Registered Nurse and joined the US Army in 1942 starting out in Camp Lee in Virginia. She spent approximately one year working as a nurse near the Panama Canal. After a series of assignments, and a 30-day voyage across the Pacific, she landed in Calcutta, India and was then moved, with 4 other nurses, to Burma where she was stationed in a field hospital. She became a Captain in the Army Nurse Corp. And, it was in Burma, that she met her husband, Morden, a captain in the Military Police. Edna returned to the US in 1946 and married shortly thereafter. The couple eventually settled in Kalamazoo where their three children were born. Edna is survived by her husband and children, Katrina Schuur Fox, Heidi Schweighoefer, Hendrik Schuur, as well as five grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. A private service has been held. Donations would be appreciated, in lieu of flowers, to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
