Kalamazoo Edith went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, June 22, 2010. She was born September 29, 1917 in Ringle, WI, a daughter of Henry and Katie Wiersma Slater and had lived in Kalamazoo for most of her life. Edith was a member of North Park Reformed Church where she started attending at the age of 6. She taught Sunday school for 25 years, served as a Youth Group leader and was active in the Christian Endeavor and J.O.Y. groups. Edith enjoyed teaching knitting and crocheting at Compere Fabrics for many years. On September 6, 1939, Edith was united in marriage with Harry Bowles who preceded her in death on November 20, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Bowles and four brothers. Surviving are: two sons, James Bowles of Covington, KY and Thomas Julie Bowles of Portage; two grandsons, Chad Maria Bowles of Plymouth, MI and Matthew Bowles of Portage; two great-granddaughters, Ashley and Gracie Bowles; a sister, Martha Henry DeVisser; a sister-in-law, Winifred Beard; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11:00 Friday morning, June 25, 2010, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with Rev. Steve Slater and Rev. Paul Fazio, officiating. Interment will follow services in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8pm and Friday from 10-11am at the funeral home.
