WHITAKER, Earnest
Kalamazoo, Michigan Earnest M. Whitaker, United States Navy-1940 to 1942, Veteran of the Pacific Campaign, Seaman 1st Class, US Navy Seabee, 12th Division, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009 in Kalamazoo. Earnest was originally from Hope, Arkansas, born February 2, 1925, the son of Solan and Janie Malone Whitaker and had been employed by Metro Transit for over 20 years as a bus driver. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Vivian Whitaker. Earnest is survived by his daughter, Janet Gill of Kalamazoo; and his grandson, Leary Johnson of Kalamazoo; step-daughters, Rachael Boulrece and Susan Dantzler; a step-son, Linus Boulrece; many step-grandchildren; and two cousins, Thomas "Tommy" Malone and Elvin Malone of Chicago. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday in the First United Baptist Church, 821 S. Burdick St., with Pastor Lenzy Bell officiating. There will be a family hour beginning at 10:00 AM, prior to the service. Interment will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, North Drake Road.
