Kalamazoo, MI Beloved brother and uncle passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014, at the age of 90. David was born October 6, 1923, in Kalamazoo, the son of Henry and Nellie Emaar VanTuyl. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregations, first in Grand Rapids, where he resided for most of his life, and in recent years in Kalamazoo. For many years, David was employed at Hekman Furniture in Grand Rapids. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Martha S. Woods and Konnie Kabboord. Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Scheurwater and Wilma DeVries, and one brother, Peter John VanTuyl, as well as many nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation, 108 Pratt Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49001, with Rev. G.J. Baan officiating. Interment will follow in Fairplains Cemetery, 2056 Diamond Avenue, NE, Grand Rapids, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials in David VanTuyl's memory may be made to Providence Christian School in Kalamazoo. The family wishes to thank the staff at Park Village Pines and Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan for all their loving care.
