Daniel Moerman

MOERMAN, Daniel Portage Passed away on May 6, 2015 at Bronson Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born on October 10, 1924 to Cornelius and Catherine Moerman. Dan was one of ten children in the family. He attended Ebenezer Christian School until the 8th grade and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. He served his country in WWII in the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946. After the service he attended WMU, graduating in 1950 with a degree in Math. He is preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters; John Moerman Evelyn, Marinus Moerman Marie, William Moerman Mary Ann, George Moerman Evelyn, Josephine Broekema Clarence, Elizabeth Benton Larry, Cornelia Baker Robert and Catherine Schlukebir Eugene. He is survived by one brother, Adrian Moerman Virginia. In 1949 he married Jessie May Hildon and in 2014 they celebrated 65 years of married bliss. They lived in the Kalamazoo area all their lives. They belonged to Gull Lake Country Club and enjoyed playing golf during the summer months and spent many winter months in Florida, during their retired years. He was a lifelong member of Grace Christian Reformed Church, serving as teacher, Deacon and Elder. He was a supporter of the Kalamazoo Christian Schools, where his children received their education. He served on the North Christian School Board and Kalamazoo Christian High School Board, serving as President for two years.
He is survived by three children, Steven Moerman Marcia, Patricia Hulsebus Larry and Gregory Moerman Patricia, four grandchildren, Matthew Schuurman Curtisa, Sara Brinks Matthew, Emily Henion Brian and Carley Stephens Anthony and blessed with seven great grandchildren.
He worked as a mechanical engineer for LC Kingscott for 20 years and RC Byce and Associates for 20 years. He was a registered Professional Engineer in several states and designed mechanical systems for many commercial, industrial, educational, private and public buildings. He was a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers ASHRAE for 24 years and the Michigan Professional Engineers Society.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 8, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the Langeland Westside Chapel on 9th Street. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 9 at 11:00 am at the Grace Christian Reformed Church on Whites Road with Rev. Greg Timmer officiating. Private family interment at Mt Ever-Rest Cemetery will be held before the service. Contributions can be made to the Kalamazoo Christian Schools or Grace Christian Reformed Church Building Fund.
