Kalamazoo Charlie passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, December 11, 2007. He was born June 3, 1952 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Charles and Lois Smith Hayes. He was employed by Taplin Environmental Contracting Corp. in Kalamazoo. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, and loved animals; but most of all he loved his spending time with his wife and family. On January 30, 1987, Charlie was united in marriage to Debbie Boone in Kalamazoo, who survives. Also surviving are his 2 sons, Michael Tonya Hayes and Scott Hayes both of Kalamazoo; 2 grandchildren, Mikie and Makayla; 2 sisters, Nancy Williams of NM, and Mary Roger Herring of Kalamazoo; 1 brother, Arthur Hayes of Kalamazoo; mother-in-law, Anita Joe DeGoede of Kalamazoo; father-in-law, James Jackie Boone Sr. of FL; 1 brother-in-law, James Boone Jr. of SC; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Charlie will be at 11:00 AM Saturday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway, with Rev. John Kepler of Kalamazoo Covenant Church officiating. Interment will follow in Comstock Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM on Friday December 14 at the funeral home.
