Portage, Michigan Passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 at her home with family by her side. She was born November 20, 1922 in Terre Haute, IN, the youngest of 10 children born to Harry and Rose McCoy. She served her country during WW II in the United States Navy. On May 4, 1946, she married John T. Smith, who preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded by her parents and all of her siblings. Carolyn was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Portage, loved gardening and canning the vegetables that she and John grew, and loved her children and her grandchildren. Carolyn is survived by her children, Joan Gilbert Karen Renchof TN, Richard "Rick" Jannie Smith of Kalamazoo and Patricia "Patti" Mark Jones of Portage; grandchildren, Justin Lesley Jones and Elizabeth Matt Ellington; 2 brothers-in-law, Jim Smith and Bob Smith; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM in the First Reformed Church of Portage, 7905 S. Westnedge Ave., with Pastor Mike Drew, officiating. Interment will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
