ANDERSON, Bernadette "Bernie"
Of Portage Bernadette Evelyn Ross Anderson joined her Savior Monday, November 1, 2010. Bernie was born March 2, 1920, in Muskegon Heights, MI, the second of three daughters to Andrew L. and Nora Hickey Ross. She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1938. Bernie was a secretary at the Brunswick Corporation in Muskegon, MI, where she met the love of her life and husband of 55 years, Arthur Anderson. She and Arthur were married on April 16, 1955 and lived in Roosevelt Park, MI until moving to Portage, MI in 1961. Bernie and Art were one of the founding members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Portage where she served as church secretary for many years. She and her husband were active in many or the church's programs and especially involved in Prince of Peace's Senior Care Programs. Bernie was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Katherine Stroyan and Marcella Royce. Surviving are: her husband, Arthur; brother-in-law, Lyle Anderson; sister-in-law Joyce Ed Nervig; 3 nieces, Mary Royce, Jean Rose and Joan Van Kampen; nephew, Paul Janet Royce; 2 great-nieces, Ashley and Megan Van Kampen; 3 great-nephews, Jeffery Rose and Brandon and Andrew Van Kampen; and 2 great-great-nephews, Preston and Parker Rose. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Wednesday today at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Services will be held 10:00 Thursday morning at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1747 W. Milham Rd. with her pastors, Pastor Paul Nuechterlein and Pastor Dave Dockweiler, officiating. Interment in South Portage Cemetery will follow services. In lieu of flowers, Bernie's family asks that donations be made to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Choir Fund.
