JOHNSTON, Barbara
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Monday evening, May 12, 2014 at the Kairos Dwelling. Barb was born June 6, 1945 in Kalamazoo the daughter of the late Walter and Wilma Miller Brehm. Prior to her retirement she was employed with Borgess Medical Center for 38 years as a registered nurse where she worked in the hospital and later in the Woodbridge Outpatient Surgery. She was a member of the Portage United Church of Christ; was an advanced master gardener; and volunteered with Ministry with Community. On February 6, 1976 Barb was united in marriage to David Johnston who preceded her in death on May 28, 2012. She was also preceded in death by a sister. She is survived by a sister and brother, Bette Chachich and Walter "Bud" Brehm; a mother-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, May 24 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick. Friends may meet the family from 10-11 prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the Kairos Dwelling, Ministry with Community, or the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue.
