Audrey Townsend

August 23, 1924 — June 24, 2015

TOWNSEND, AUDREY Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in Kalamazoo. Audrey was born on August 23, 1924, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of the late Oscar and Pauline Cook Kite, and raised in Oakwood neighborhood. She was the beloved and devoted wife of Owen Townsend, cherished mother and mother-in-law of Scott Townsend and Christopher Wolfe. Friends with Owen since before kindergarten, they both graduated from University High, and were married in 1944. They lived where the Army Air Corps stationed them. Audrey worked for a short time in the office at Gibson Guitar, was a full time homemaker and mother while Scott was growing up in Oakwood, and together with Owen, owned and operated the Otsego Inn for several years in the 1970's. Her special hobbies were gardening, proudly winning the Kalamazoo Garden Club award for best in the residential category in the 1990's, Big Band music and dancing. Surviving are her son and son-in-law, Scott Townsend and Christopher Wolfe; niece, Janice Feldmann, and other nephews and nieces; and brother and sister-in-law. Preceding her in death were her husband; sisters, Delores "Todie" Vandenberg and Myrna "Mert" Swift; and many friends and relatives. Always loving and generous to others, Audrey will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorial donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice.
