Arthur "Artie" Meints

May 16, 1948 — July 4, 2012

MEINTS, Arthur "Artie"
of Kalamazoo, Michigan On July the 4th, Artie gained the freedom from this world reaching out to the hand of his Heavenly Father during the night. Artie was born on May 16, 1948 into his earthly body which, although muscularly strong, was compromised by cerebral palsy. His mind was very bright and his spirit was incredibly strong. He was cared for daily by his parents, Arthur and Eleanor Meints for his 64 years of life. He leaves behind his parents and his three sisters, Janet John Scholten, Linda Stephen French and Gayle Tim VanMouwerik. He also leaves behind a significant extended family and an entire community of friends. Artie was raised on a celery farm which became a flower greenhouse farm. He initially worked for his father and when his father retired, he continued at the same farm, Ken's Greenhouses, for the next 28 years of his life. His early education was provided by Pine Rest Children's Retreat. At age 18, he continued his education of the Bible through Bible on Tapes and through his church. He was well known for his joyful character and jovial sense of humor. He enjoyed bowling with his friends at Continental Lanes and participating in Special Olympics. His entire life was a testimony to his faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. He was one of the strongest prayer warriors known to all. A visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11AM at the Comstock Christian Reformed Church, 5300 Comstock Ave., with Rev. Ben Hulst, officiating. Memorials may be made to the Friendship Club of the 3rd Christian Reformed Church where he enjoyed the company of his friends for Bible Study and fellowship.
