KALAMAZOO Al went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, May 17, 2015, at his home. He was born on June 23, 1944 in Kalamazoo, the son of Reinert and June Owen DeVries. On May 22, 1965, he was united in marriage to Nancy L. Kudary. Al worked as a farmer for most of his career until his retirement. During retirement, he delivered newspapers for the Kalamazoo Gazette for 15 years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren; attending their sporting events and activites. He was an avid soccer fan and also coached his son. Al enjoyed working with his hands, solving jigsaw puzzles and tinkering in the barn. He loved spending time with family and neighbors around the fire pit. Surviving are his wife, Nancy DeVries; their three children, Kathy Doug DeCaire of Brighton, Bill Susan DeVries of Rockford and Thomas Tina DeVries of Kalamazoo; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth and Josh DeCaire, Allie, Jacob, Owen, Branden and Ben DeVries; two sisters, Carol Steve Town of Bloomingdale, Nancy Newton of Delton; brother-in-law, Dwight Replogle; special sister-in-law, Sandy Jim Imus; brother-in-law, George Debra Kudary; close friends, Chuck and Glenda Minor, Dave and Diana Corning, and Stan and Julie Alphenaar; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; and two sisters, Joan DeVries and Janet Replogle. A funeral service to celebrate Al's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 22 Al and Nancy's 50th Wedding Anniversary, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Pastor David E. Thompson will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with Al's family from 6-8 PM on Thursday, May 21, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to West Michigan Cancer Center or Texas Corners Bible Church.
