Passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo. Age 95. Walter was born in Cincinnati, OH on October 4, 1921, the son of the late Walter William Johnston Sr. and Elsie Bernstein Johnston. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for Eaton Manufacturing, retiring after 36 years of service. He was a member of Sunny Side United Methodist Church. He was united in marriage with Harriett May (Matteson) Johnston on March 31, 1942; she survives him. He is also survived by children, Barbara Jean (Larry) Hofmockel and Gregory Allen Johnston; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Walter William Johnston III. Interment with full military honors will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 17, 2017. Memorial contributions may be given to Sunnyside United Methodist Church Music Department or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
