Died Monday morning July 17, 2017. Thelma was born September 10, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri a daughter of Willie (Taber) Murphy. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of her life and was employed with Meijer for over 20 years before retiring. Thelma was preceded in death by her mom and step father, Tony Zulpo; her husband, Jack W. Hightree; a sister, Elva Mae; and a brother, Donald Murphy. She is survived by 2 children, Donald (Marylan) Hightree of Vicksburg and Jacqueline (Barry) Stahr of Kalamazoo; 4 grandchildren, Amanda (Todd) Carlson, Leif (Steph) Hightree, Russell and David Stahr; 3 great-grandchildren, Cadence and Nathan Hightree and Abigail Carlson; a sister, Ellen Lane of Comstock; a sister-in-law, Doris Murphy of Parchment; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 11 o'clock Thursday in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:00 in the Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Fountain View Assisted Living Center. Arrangements were made by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St.
