Ronald Earl Fleckenstein, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in Brookdale Assisted Living with his family by his side. He was born on December 29, 1934 in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of William and Elva (Wisser) Fleckenstein, and had been a lifelong area resident. Ron graduated from St. Augustine Catholic School where he served in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Ron retired after 37 years with James River Corporation where he was Plant Manager for the Service Products Division. During his career he served on many boards and organizations within the community and county. Ron was a former Parchment City Commission member and Mayor of the City of Parchment, and spent 17 years on the Parchment Fire Department. He served 8 years as Oshtemo Township Supervisor and 5 years as Parchment City Manager. He also headed the 911 System Development Team. Ron served as President of the Oshtemo Rotary Club and President of Parchment First Community Federal Credit Union. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and William Fleckenstein; three great-grandchildren, Adam Boers, Jr., Chantle Fleckenstein and unborn Martin Fleckenstein. On October 29, 1955 Ron married the former MaryAnn McCarty who survives. Also surviving are four children; Deborah (Joel) Steenholdt of Kalamazoo, MI, Mike (Brenda) Fleckenstein of Three Rivers, MI, John (Laura) Fleckenstein of Coral, MI and Wendy Fleckenstein of Kalamazoo, MI; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchilren; a brother, Richard (Beverly) Fleckenstein; 4 sisters; Rosalie Simmons, Mary Lou Fleckenstein, Karen Morris and Nancy (Victor) Craig and many nieces and nephews. Ron will be remembered as a loving husband, a phenomenal father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a devoted civil servant. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 12 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1628 East G Avenue, with Fr. Robert Flickinger presiding. Burial in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery will follow. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, The Alzheimer's Association or to the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue.
