Richard M. Like

November 14, 1925 — May 2, 2017

Richard was born in Plainwell, MI, the son of Roy and Mildred (Roe) Like. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Like and a sister, Elsie Schmidt. Richard and Helen (Kreling) were married in 1954. Richard was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Helen; his son, Jeffry D. Like; and grandchildren, Adam J. Like (Sheila), Jeffry J. Like and Elizabeth L. Like; and two great-grandchildren, Preston A. Marnor and Talan K. Like. Richard attended Plainwell high school. He served his country twice in the United States Army. He worked many years at KVP/Brown Company and with the State of Michigan at the Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital and the Michigan State highway department. He was an avid fisherman, sportsman, and golfer. He enjoyed driving cars after retirement for various local car dealers. He especially enjoyed helping others. Richard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo and a member of the Mar O Not Sunday school class. He was also a member and secretary and past State officer of the United Commercial Travelers of America. His Masonic affiliations included member of Fidelity Lodge #513 AM and FM, having served twice as Worshipful Master and many years as treasurer. He was a member of the Masonic Retirement Club and a past master of the CMMA Temple board association. Also a member of The Order of Eastern Star, Past Masters Club district #11, Royal Arch Masons of Kalamazoo Chapter, Royal and Select Mason's Council #63, Knights Templar Peninsula Club, and Shriner of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, having received the MSA Award and has been named Mason of the Year and honored as a Scottish Rite Masonic Family. In addition to sports and fishing, he enjoyed the outdoors. He especially enjoyed helping others in various projects and was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. The family wishes to thank all members of Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan for their care, concern and help in the most trying days. Also thank you to Borgess Hospital's personnel for the excellent treatment received. At Richard's request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
