Ray Judy

October 23, 1932 — May 9, 2018

Ray W. Judy, 85, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018. He was born in Eglon, West Virginia October 23, 1932 to the late Ray C. and Carrie (Fike) Judy. Ray was united in marriage to Carol Larsen on August 27, 1960. She preceded him in death in February of 2003.

Ray majored in biology and chemistry at Bridgewater College and graduated on the dean's list. His professional career began at the University of Michigan hospital. While in Ann Arbor he met his future wife Carol. He moved to Kalamazoo where he worked as a biochemist for the Upjohn company. He won the Upjohn award in 1991.

He was a compassionate caregiver for his wife in her lengthy battle with Huntington's disease while continuing to be a supportive parent. In this and other ways, he was and will continue to be a bedrock for his family.

Ray and his family are forever indebted to the 911 dispatcher, the ambulance staff, the emergency room staff, the hospital staff, the church staff, the retirement home staff, the hospice staff and the funeral home staff. May God bless you all.

Ray is survived by his children, Stephen Judy and Kathleen (Timothy) Dubbs; sister, Eleanor (Don) Robinson; and several nieces and nephews. Ray became a donor and directed that his body be sent to the University of Michigan hospital for anatomical research. An informal celebration for Ray will take place on Thursday, June 7, 11:00 a.m. at Kalamazoo First United Methodist Church, 212 S Park St W, Kalamazoo. Memorials may be directed to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, www.hdsa.org .
