Kalamazoo, MI

Died Monday morning May 1, 2017. Millie was born October 26, 1922 in Ree Heights, South Dakota, a daughter of Carl and Kathryn (Hague) Speirs. She graduated from South Dakota State University and the University of Illinois; she also served honorably with the U.S. Navy during WWII. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of her life and was employed as a librarian with WMU for 14 years and the Upjohn Company for 7 years, before retiring. Millie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, as well as local chapters of the American Association of University Women, the Ladies Library Association, & the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Alan G. Hedrick; a son, Gary J. Hedrick; and a brother, Carl "Lee" Speirs. On September 15, 1946, she was united in marriage to Gerald "Jerry" E. Hedrick who died Saturday, June 10th, 2017. She is survived by 2 daughters, Carol (Dan) Dustin of Sturgis and Linda H. Fazio of Kalamazoo; 2 grandchildren, Gina (Justin) Fazio Terada of Chicago and Gary M. Fazio of Kalamazoo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held 1 o'clock Thursday, June 22nd at the First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park St. There will be no visitation. Private inurnment will take place in the church columbarium. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society of Southwest Michigan. Arrangements were made by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St.
