GROENHEIDE, Matthew Christopher
Matthew was born on September 29th, 1974 in St. Joseph, MI. He passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at his Misty Creek home with his family and friends at his side, surrounded by people who loved him. Matthew graduated from Portage Northern High School in 1993 and Kalamazoo Valley, in 1995, with an Associate's Degree. He also attended Western Michigan University. Matthew is survived by his mother and father Don and Mona (Rutherford) Groenheide of Portage, his sister Nicole (Groenheide) Haring and his brother-in-law Matt Haring of Kalamazoo, his brother Mark Groenheide and sister-in-law Brittany Groenheide of Chicago, IL, 5 nieces and nephews: Benjamin, Lucas and Emma Grace Haring, and Chase and Annabelle Groenheide, two loving Uncles, Bob Rutherford of Phoenix, AZ, and Larry Rutherford of Gulf Port, MS.
Matthew's family would like to express their gratitude to Community Living Options, especially Molli Kornak and Lori Anderson, along with the wonderful staff at the Misty Creek home that loved and cared for him throughout the last 5 years. We would also like to thank Interact of Kalamazoo and all those who worked so hard to assist him. Last but not least, Hospice Care of SW Michigan and a special thank you to Anne Hirsch-Lajiness, who took such loving care of our son.
A visitation will take place at the Langeland Family Funeral Home on 9th Street, on Thursday, June 22 from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 23 at Voyage Church at 11:00 am. A luncheon will be provided after the service.
