Mason Scott Shepard

December 5, 1991 — January 28, 2016

Mason Scott Shepard passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 on the ski slopes of Winter Park, Colorado. Mason was born December 5, 1991, in Michigan City, Indiana.

Mason attended school at St. Augustine Cathedral and Hackett Catholic Prep where he was a captain of the football team, a captain of the ski team, and received the U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award. He and his family spent winters in Winter Park, Colorado, where they participated with the Winter Park Competition Center. He went on to attend Kalamazoo College to play football and received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business and Psychology. After school, he worked in the family business and then returned to Winter Park, Colorado to take a job coaching young ski racers. Mason was an avid skier and died in his ski boots doing something he loved.

Most in life, Mason loves his family and his dog, Rocky. He also loves football and skiing, followed by his love of reading and creating meals in the kitchen. He enjoys fishing trips with his Dad to Canada and Florida. He also enjoys spending time with his friends and coaching the young athletes of the Winter Park Competition Center. He was able to travel to see some of the world, having been to places like France, Italy, Austria, Hungary, the Caribbean and Canada, also most areas of the United States. His recent trips around Colorado with the Winter Park Ski Team have been especially fun for Mason.

It has been a privilege to be Mason's parents, and we are very thankful Mason's sister, Madison, was able to spend so much time with her brother, so she can hold dear the memory of Mason's gentle spirit.

Mason's life was too short, but those touched by him understand that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His gentle smile could melt the hearts of those around him, and though he is not a big talker, his heart, humor, and kindness always shine through. His laughter and joy while with his family and friends will live on in our hearts forever.
