KLEIS, Lois A.
Kalamazoo

Passed away Thursday evening May 18, 2017. Lois was born December 9, 1927 in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Hager) Rameau. She grew up on Lay Blvd in one of the many houses her father built. Graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School, she went on to attend Hope College where she met and later married Paul Kleis with whom she celebrated 62 years of marriage. Lois had her hands full raising five children while Paul traveled extensively for his job with Saga Food Service. Paul's work also necessitated many moves including to Illinois, Indiana and California before they returned to Kalamazoo in 1994. After Paul's death in 2012, Lois moved to Hope Woods Senior Community where she reconnected with old friends and made many new ones. It was during this time that her gift for letter writing grew into her mission with personal notes added to birthday, anniversary, get well and sympathy cards for family and friends, but especially for her Second Reformed Church family.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul M. Kleis; a son, Timothy Kleis; and 2 sisters, Edith Eenigenburg and Winifred Fylstra. She is survived by 4 children, Mark Kleis of Kalamazoo, Rebecca (John) Wruble of Renton, WA, Julie (Keith) Bramer of San Jose, CA, and Thomas (Michelle) Kleis of Kalamazoo; a daughter-in-law, Judy Kleis of Kalamazoo; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Glennyce (Ivan) Moerman of Kalamazoo; several nieces, nephews, and cousins Harry Hager, Jr., of Chicago, IL, Mary Hager of Holland, MI and Daniel Hager of Montgomery, IL. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 1st at Second Reformed Church, 2323 Stadium Dr. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will take place in Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Second Reformed Church.
