Janice Van Dyke

Janice Kay Van Dyke, age 66, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, March 12, 2018; following a 17-year struggle with leukemia and lymphoma. Jan was born July 13, 1951 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Jack and Gertrude (Onderlinde) Broekema. On June 3, 1972, she was united in marriage to Harold J. Van Dyke. She was a lifelong area resident and longtime member of Southridge Reformed Church. Prior to beginning her family, Jan was employed with The Blossom Shop and The Flowerette, where she enjoyed expressing her special talent as a floral designer. The most important part of her life was her family, especially her four precious granddaughters. Surviving are her husband Harold J. Van Dyke; her son and daughter-in-law Steven & Jessica Van Dyke; her granddaughters Abigail, Johanna, Charlotte and Caroline Van Dyke; her siblings David (Marilyn) Broekema and Ruth (Fred) Rost; her in-laws Irene Broekema, Roger (Diane) Van Dyke, Dave (Barb) Van Dyke, Bill Sootsman; many nieces, nephews and special friends. Jan was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-laws; brothers Dale Broekema and Stan Broekema; sister-in-law Norma Sootsman. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 16 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. A private family graveside service will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. A memorial service to celebrate Janice's life will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, March 17 at Southridge Reformed Church (6726 Texas Drive) with Pastor Becky Ringler officiating. Memorials in Jan's memory may be directed to Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes; Kalamazoo Gospel Mission; or Warm Kids Fund.
