Passed away Monday afternoon, July 24, 2017 at her home. Gloria was born January 3, 1951 in Kalamazoo the daughter of the late Arlene (VanDerSlik) Broekema. Gloria was a member of Third Christian Reformed Church where she played bass guitar in the praise band. Gloria was employed as a caregiver with Stay Home Companion. She enjoyed watching her daughters play music and singing with the Sweet Adelines. Gloria loved taking care of people with her food and spending time with her family and friends. On October 2, 1984 she was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Ickes who survives. Also surviving are her children, Josh Ickes, Emily Ickes-Jackson (Dane Jackson), Ashley Ickes; grandson, Braidyn Ickes; a brother, Bob (Doris) Broekema; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, July 29 at Third Christian Reformed Church, 2400 Winchell Ave with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Baker officiating. Friends may meet the family from 10:00-11:00am Saturday at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Christian Schools or Third Christian Reformed Church.
