of Vicksburg, Michigan

Gertrude May Bower, passed away on July 4, 2017 in Galesburg, MI at the age of 91. She was born on December 24, 1925 in Schoolcraft, MI a daughter of Ernest and Ethel (Barnes) Harrison. Gertrude worked at Allied Paper for over 40 years before retiring. She served as president of VFW Post 1527 Woman's Auxiliary, loved to dance to Big Band music and enjoyed traveling. On December 7, 1943 Gertrude married William "Bill" Bower who preceded her in death on August 17, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, Iva June Harrison, Carmelita Bundy, Esther Peacock, Lillian Bowser, Max Harrison, Roy Harrison and John Harrison. Surviving are a daughter, Penny (Frank) Hurd of Scotts; two grandchildren, Heather (Jim) Roberson of Vicksburg and Frank (Melissa) Hurd of Scotts; five great-grandchildren, Austin Roberson, Landon Roberson, Dallas Hurd, Lincoln Hurd and Niko Hurd; a brother, Lyle (Katie) Harrison of Vicksburg; a sister, Alta (Ernie) Durst of White Pigeon; two sisters-in-law, Alice Doorn and Barb Harrison; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 9th from 2 to 5 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway. Graveside services will be held 1 o'clock Monday, July 10th in Schoolcraft Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Southern Care Hospice.
