Bill passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Bronson Methodist Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on March 15, 1939 in Kalamazoo, the son of Paul and Blanche (Langley) Pifer. On January 10, 1959, he was united in marriage to Susan A. Finch. Bill was employed by James River Corp, Eaton Corp, and Twin Ford, where he sold cars for many years. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Detroit Tigers and Lions. He also loved fishing, especially with his grandson, Paul. Surviving are his beloved wife of 58 years: Susan Pifer; their five children: Brenda (Patrick) Quinn of NC, Darrell (Annie) Pifer of Portage, Tammy (Victor) Heckman of Kalamazoo, Amy Beth Pifer of Kalamazoo and Holly (Peter) Montalvo of CA; eight grandchildren: Kirby Quinn, Jennifer Pifer, Katie (Joseph) Lioy, Paul (Veronica) Heckman, Sarah Heckman, Billy Heckman, Megan Montalvo and Lidia Montalvo; and a great-grandson: Owen Heckman. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother: Jerry Pifer. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with Bill's family from 1-2 PM on Monday, Dec. 11, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave, where a service to celebrate his life will begin at 2:00 PM. Private family inurnment will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery, Delton at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to SPCA of Southwest Michigan or American Heart Association.
