Betty Jean Lockett, age 84, passed away July 19, 2017 in Kalamazoo. Betty was born July 10, 1933 in Driver, Arkansas, the daughter of Willie German Jones and Mary Eliza Hunter. She was a resident of Kalamazoo the past 72 years and for 36 of those years she was a foster parent to many children. Betty was a member of the Kalamazoo East Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. In 1955, Betty was united in marriage to Otha Lockett, who proceeded her in death in 1993. She was also proceeded in death by ten siblings and a daughter, Annie Hassan and son-in-law Jesse Durden. Surviving are her children Evelyn (T.J.) Thomas, Joyce Durden, Michelle Lockett, Ophelia Lockett, Anthony "Tony" Lockett, Derek "Terry" Lockett, Kevin Lockett, London Lockett, 26 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and a large host of other family and friends. A special thank you to great-granddaughter Khalia, friend Joann Ryan, and Nephew Barron Lockett. In accordance with Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 5 at 2:00 at:
