Bernard Wesley Cavey, age 93, passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 in Kalamazoo, MI. Bernard was born September 30, 1923 in Western Port, MD, to the late Michael and Pearl (Jacobs) Cavey. He was united in marriage to Viola Fairfield on January 3, 1942. Bernard served in the U.S. Army Air Force, during WWII, from March of 1943 until honorably discharged in December of 1945. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church for many years. For over 37 years he was employed as a millwright with Allied Paper Company and several years with the City of Kalamazoo Department of Public Utilities . Bernard is survived by his wife of 75 years, Viola Cavey; children, Nancy (George) Geoddaeus, Diane (Ron) Meyers and Bruce (Carol) Cavey; 18 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Bernard was preceded in death by siblings, Michael, Mary, Francis and Pearl. A Service to Celebrate Bernard's life will be held at 1:00PM on Monday, June 12th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street with his son Retired Navy Captain Bruce Cavey officiating. A private burial will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 13th. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bernard's name may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
